Aren’t there those days when all you want to do is curl up on a couch with a book and a bowl of your comfort food ?
A warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of salted caramel sauce does it for me.
I love this lush sweet tart apple filling covered with crispy morsels of buttery sugary topping. Just the thing you need to unwind with !
Apple Crisp is really a fall dessert made up of a baked apple filling and a crispy crumb topping.Use any apples you like. Or, try a mix of apples for different textures and flavours. It’s one of those desserts that can never go wrong !

Preheat oven to 200 C.
In an oven proof skillet or a pan ( if using a separate baking dish ) melt butter over a low flame and add the tossed apple until it’s half cooked . Add a splash of milk to make the cinnamon sauce creamier.
If using the baking pan, layer the half-cooked apples with the sauce evenly. Spoon the oats topping over the apples and press lightly . Bake in the oven for 20 mins until golden.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and a salted caramel sauce.
Salted caramel sauce

Water – 1/2 cup
Sugar – 1 cup
Heavy cream – 1/2 cup
Unsalted butter – 1 tbsp
Sea salt – 1/4 tsp
Method :
Pour water into a sauce pan, add sugar into the middle of the pan. Cover and bring to boil over high heat. Uncover and continue to boil until syrup is thick ( about 15 mins ) . Reduce heat to medium, continue to cook until sugar is deep amber. ( about 5 mins)
Meanwhile, bring cream and salt to simmer in a small saucepan over high heat.
Remove sugar syrup from heat. Pour about 1/4 of hot cream into sugar mix . Once bubbling subsides, add remaining cream. Stir gently until smooth and whisk in butter. Let it cool until warm and drizzle over vanilla ice cream .
Add a pinch of love ❤️:
Substitute the water to make the filling with apple cider ( unfiltered apple juice ) – 1 /2 cup and reduce it to 1/4 cup over low flame. Use different apples for varied texture and flavour . Substitute walnuts with Pecans .
